Kesha Gifts Fans with Multi-Platform Release of “Holiday Road”

Global pop superstar Kesha is kicking the Christmas Season off early with a multiplatform digital premiere of “Holiday Road.” Released on November 12th, the song is available on all DSPs and streaming services. This means that fans on Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon Music, and more can add listen to this song and to their Holiday playlists.

Spotify initially released the song as part of their Spotify Singles Holiday program, and fans immediately took to the song. The song has amassed over 50 million plays since its initial release last year in 2024. Kesha’s rendition peaked at #2 on Billboard’s “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs,” which is the song’s first-ever appearance on the top 10 of a Billboard chart and its first charted version since Buckingham’s original in 1983.

‘Tis the season of giving because Kesha has another gift for fans of this retro-inspired holiday hit. A limited release of “Holiday Road” on 7″ vinyl will be available later this month on Black Friday. “Holiday Road” vinyls will be backed with “A Very Merry Christmas from Kesha,” a previously unreleased version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Only 1750 pressings of the vinyl will be made for this release.

Zhone, Kesha’s frequent collaborator, produced the track with absolute brilliance. He captured the spirited energy of the original yet gave it an electronic pop flare. The producer worked with Kesha on “JOYRIDE,” “DELUSIONAL,” and “BOY CRAZY,’ songs off of her latest and sixth studio album entitled “. (Period).”

Kesha’s cover of “Holiday Road” is an uplifting pop music take on Lindsey Buckingham’s groovin’ rock and roll holiday classic. The production maintains a nostalgic vibe despite the song being released in 2024. Several elements, including the choice of synths and drums, contribute to this nostalgic feeling. Overall, the song gives off a retrowave aesthetic.

The song begins with a repeating eighth note that grounds the track. Its repeating nature provides a feeling of a rush and excitement. This note is accompanied by a sustained note that sets the song’s bright atmosphere and opens up the track.

Distinctive “oh” adlibs from the original track have new life as vocal accents, now performed by Kesha. These vocals bounce in and out of existence throughout the track like breath on a cold winter’s day.

Kesha’s voice enters and cuts through the song with a mature tone that’s a far cry from her ‘TikTok’ days. Her voice is brisk and powerful, yet imbued with a spirited youthfulness, particularly in her accompanying falsetto backing vocals. A touch of mystique is added to her voice through the spacious reverb

The drums sound as if they’re from an ’80s rock kit, or at least inspired by that time period. This aesthetic may be intentional since the original song came out in 1983. Adding to the retro aesthetic is the song’s 4/4 drum pattern. It provides the song with a vibe reminiscent of Michael Sembello’s “Maniac,” except it has a modern EDM touch. Curiously, “Maniac” was also in 1983.

At two minutes and five songs long, Kesha’s “Holiday Road” is a short song that goes as quickly as it comes. It’s like a sleigh ride on a hill: brisk, fast, and exciting yet enjoyed for a brief moment. However, it’s a moment that is exhilarating and memorable. The song has strong replay value, and it’s a great addition to any modern or electronic Holiday playlists.
